Manitoba
Association for Distributed Learning
and Training
First Annual Report
It is my sincere
pleasure to present the report on the first year
of operation for the Manitoba Association for Distributed
Learning and Training.
The past year has been very difficult
as the Board contented with the initial stages of
establishing the association. We have been able to
achieve many key accomplishments in that process.
These accomplishments include compiling
reports indicating that the first annual conference
was fairly positive. The conference was well attended
and well received. It also provided a starting nest
egg for the association’s bank account.
Other successes over the past year include
the formal establishment of the “not – for
profit” registered body; the establishment
of a bank account, revision of the association’s
by-laws. A very valuable development has been the
creation of the MADlaT listserve and web page with
support from both MERLIN and Red River College. These
2 products serve as key vehicles for communication
across the province and beyond.
Of course, of most importance to the
members, is the mounting of the 2nd Annual Conference.
The conference is the most obvious benefit to the
membership and both the Board and the conference
planning committee have spent much of their time
connecting with related associations nationally and
international as well as connecting with well respected
individuals in the distance education related disciplines
to ensure we were able to bring sessions that addressed
the membership needs and interest as we understood
them.
The fact that we have gathered increasing
financial support from Manitoba Departments
of Energy Science and Technology, the Department
of Education and Youth; private sector with western
Retail Lumber Association; Manitoba Smart Network
should be recognized for their support for the association.
In addition much needed support came from MERLIN,
Red River College, Assinboine Community College as
well as the University of Manitoba, University of
Winnipeg, Brandon University, Keewatin Community
College and Evergreen School Division.
All in all the year has been very productive
and it bodes well for further development of the
association over the coming 12 months. All members
are invited to let us know your interest and needs,
so your association can best serve you and contribute
to the further development of the association. Contact
me or any of the Board members to let us know your
ideas.
On behalf of all of the Board, I wish
you the best for the coming year and look forward
to seeing you at next year’s conference
