MADLaT
President's Report
Annual Meeting 2005
Once again this year has been a busy and rewarding
one for the board of the Manitoba Association for
Distributed Learning and Training. We started off the
2004/05 year with 91 members. We ended the 2004/05 year
with 175 members (as of March 2005). Remember MADLaT
membership is granted with annual conference registration.
Initial membership data for 2005/06 will be available
after this conference.
MADLaT took a significant step this year. We designed
and launched our new web site (www.madlat.ca).
Significant volunteer and in-kind contributions came
from Assiniboine Community College and Red River
College. We launched our site in February 2005. Content
was provided by many MADLaT members. The Board has
tendered a small maintenance contract and is currently
interviewing several web design companies who responded
to the request for Proposal. The Board feels 100
hours per year should be adequate for a company to
maintain the corporate site and manage the pre-and-post-annual
conference materials. The contract will be awarded
in mid-May. Please check out our web site at www.madlat.ca.

Based on a suggestion from the membership at our last
annual meeting, the Board of MADLaT sought the guidance
of one of our members, Jared Paisley, Continuing Education,
University of Manitoba. Jared did a complete review
of the MADLaT by-laws and made several suggestions to
clarify and strengthen the by-laws. These changes will
be presented at today’s annual meeting.
I would like to recognize the tremendous leadership
and hard work of Bonnie Luterbach, Debbie Jennings,
and Carol Stroud in the planning of the 2005 Annual
Conference. This event is a huge project for such a
small organization and each year the conference grows
in both size and stature. We end our year with a stronger
financial base, increased membership and a solid, dedicated
group of board and association members. It is the endless
energy of those volunteers that will sustain MADLaT
in the years ahead.
