Benefits

The benefits of membership include the opportunities to actively foster collaboration, cooperation, and understanding among those involved with distributed learning and training in Manitoba. We aim to:

  • Facilitate information exchange and build linkages
  • Initiate and support professional development in distributed education
  • Promote research into distributed learning practice and theory
  • Solicit government and agency support for distributed learning
  • Promote greater public awareness of distributed education
  • Provide mechanisms for the identification and resolution of evolving issues

Activities of MADLaT

  • May 2005: Fourth annual conference and annual general meeting is being held on May 6th, 2005 at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg with pre-conference workshops on May 5th.. The conference theme this year is Technology and Learning: What can we do with IT? Keynote presenter is Mr. Chris Dede from Harvard’s Graduate School of Business.

  • May 2004: Third annual conference and AGM is being held on May 6 – 7 at the University of Manitoba with the theme of Quality Learning: Making IT Click. Keynote presenter is Dr. Dominique Abrioux, President, Canadian Virtual University and Athabasca University.

  • March 2003: Second annual conference Flexible Learning: What’s in IT for Me? had keynote presentations by Dr. Tom Keenan and Dr. Curtis Nordman. The 2nd AGM saw the adoption of a revised set of bylaws and the election of several new board members.

  • March 2002: MADLaT organized a one-day professional development conference in Winnipeg on Bringing IT Together: Succeeding in Distributed Learning held at Red River College in Winnipeg. Presenters included Dr. Diana Oblinger, Dr. Robin Mason (via webcast), Dr. Ben Levin, Ms. Maisie Caines, Dr. Pat. Fahy, Dr. Griff Richards, and Stephen Segal. 1st annual general meeting of MADLaT was held in association with the first conference. An interim board was elected and draft bylaws were adopted to organize the activities of the association.

  • October 2001: Red River College of Applied Art, Science and Technology hosted a one-day meeting of Manitoba educators, trainers, and information technology industry members for a professional development session. Part of the agenda included a presentation by Dr. Clayton Wright of Grant McEwan College on the use of educational technology. The participants explored the challenges faced in Manitoba in using educational technology.
