Information Download: Sharing or
Stealing?
Session Description:
This presentation will examine the unique opportunities the Internet
provides for accessing and sharing information. Techniques teachers can
use to design research challenges that promote original thinking will be
discussed, as well as strategies for identifying, checking, and
preventing plagiarism. The focus of this session will be how to promote
the ethical use of information.
Presenter: Hazel Clark, 2005 Teacher Librarian of the Year
Hazel
Clark is currently completing her Master’s degree in Education and
Technology at Simon Fraser University. Her Bachelor’s degree is in
teacher-librarianship from the University of British Columbia and she
has 16 years experience as a secondary school teacher librarian, ICT,
and English teacher. In 2005, Hazel was the Teacher Librarian of the
Year, awarded by the Canadian Association for School Libraries for her
work in implementing school library programs based on a collaborative
model, which integrates the library with classroom programs and
technology resources. She conducts workshops locally and provincially in
promoting effective use of technology to develop and implement
innovative thinking and creative problem solving. Her research interests
include communities of practice, information literacy in hypertext
environments, and digital expression. Hazel’s current research is in the
area of communities of practice and how teacher librarians engaged in
this community effect the educational program of the school.
