The 2002 MADLaT Conference was held March 8, 2002, and was hosted by Red River College of Applied Arts, Science & Technology, Winnipeg, Canada. Bringing IT Together: Succeeding in Distributed Learning was the theme of the conference which featured Dr. Diana G. Oblinger as keynote speaker. Dr. Oblinger is co-author of What Business Wants from Higher Education which received the 1999 Frandson Award for best literature in continuing education. Her presentation was entitled e-Education: Evolution or Extinction? (Adobe Acrobat Reader).
 

The conference included an appearance via webcast by Dr. Robin D. Mason, Head of the Institute of Educational Technology at the Open University in the U.K. Dr. Mason was one of the early pioneers in the use of computer conferencing, and specializes in courses for distance educators and staff development programs. She spoke about Making Virtual Learning Effective (Microsoft PowerPoint).

 
One of the session leaders was Dr. Griff Richards, Research Integration Officer for the TeleLearning Network of Centres of Excellence at Simon Fraser University, Harbour Centre, Vancouver, B.C. Dr. Richards led a discussion on A World of Learning Objects: Learning Objects & Repositories (Microsoft PowerPoint).
 
Also featured at the conference were Dr. Ben Levin, Deputy Minister of Manitoba's Department of Education, Training and Youth, and Department of Advanced Education; as well as concurrent sessions on WebCT, student support, technology mediated learning, streaming video and new media applications.
