Session 17

The Challenges of Educating Students via Video Conferencing: the Hutterian Experience

Session Description:

The Challenges of Educating Students via Video Conferencing: the Hutterian Experience - This session will concentrate on the challenges of accommodating the Hutterite way of life to enable students to acquire a relevant high school education. The high school courses incorporate many discussions and assignments which bring in the Hutterite experience and allow students to relate their way of life to what they are learning. This has contributed toward the success of the students and convinced parents and colony leaders that a high school education is relevant for Hutterites.

Our experiences will provide some insight for others to replicate the program in other jurisdictions dealing with other cultures.

Presenter: Anna Maendel

Anna Maendel - Anna has been the teacher/principal at Fairholme School since 1985 and has been working with video conference course delivery since 1995-96 school year. She has been an advisor to the Brandon University Hutterian Education Program (BUHEP) since 1995. BUHEP has been successfully providing a teacher education program targeted specifically to the needs of Hutterian students since its inception.
