Session 22
How are we
doing? Are Canadian postsecondary institutions ready for
distance and distributed learning? How are we doing? Are
Canadian postsecondary institutions ready for distance and
distributed learning?
Abstract:
Over the last two years, the
Canadian Association for Distance Education (now the Canadian
Network for Innovation in Education (CNIE)) and the Office of
Learning Technologies (OLT) funded three researchers, Drs.
Kathleen Matheos and Bonnie Luterbach, University of Manitoba,
and Raymond Guy, Collège Boréal, to complete a research project.
The project goal was to identify indicators of institutional
readiness for and barriers to the development and implementation
of distance and distributed learning initiatives. The research
culminated in the development of a bilingual, online survey to
be administered to Canadian post-secondary educational
institutions.
At this session the researcher will present an overview of the
project, which included a literature review and interviews with
senior institutional administrators across Canada, along with
the preliminary survey findings. The preliminary survey findings
will be used as a baseline and profile of Canadian postsecondary
institutions’ readiness for the development and implementation
of distance and distributed learning initiatives.
