Video Games in the Classroom? Bridging the Entertainment and Education Gap

Session Description:

With the exception of edu-tainment titles, gaming and education have traditionally been viewed as separate pursuits. Yet, after school, millions of children and teens spend inordinate amounts of time immersed in video games that invite exploration and reward. This session introduces 25 teaching ideas for integrating video games into K-12 schools. A wide variety of subject areas for both the elementary and secondary grades are covered. This session is based on the author's recently published book, "Playing to Learn: Video Games in the Classroom."

Presenter: David Hutchison

David Hutchison, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the Faculty of Education, Brock University (Ontario, Canada). He is the author of A Natural History of Place in Education and Playing to Learn: Video Games in the Classroom.
