Workshop 11
Information
Literacy in a Web 2.0 World
Workshop Description:
Information Literacy is a “key”
skill for the 21st century. In this workshop, participants will
learn to combine Web 2.0 applications with approaches to
inquiry, information, teaching and learning. In a
technology-rich information access environment, teachers must
have in-depth knowledge and skill on how academic content,
technology, and information literacy skills intersect. An
understanding of traditional information structures, as well as
shifts in the way knowledge is built and organized will also be
discussed. The focus of this workshop is on strategies for using
Internet technologies to engage students in effective use of
information and communication technology, while accessing Web
2.0 applications. Practical instructional design that can be
assimilated into classrooms will be demonstrated. Workshop
participants will use technology to have “hands-on” practice
sharpening their own information literacy skills while becoming
familiar with Web 2.0 environments.
