Title: Using the Tools in Blackboard to Engage High School Students in Online Learning

Workshop Description:

Don’t have ready access to Web 2.0 tools? Find out how you can engage students in a Blackboard/WebCT environment, using the integrated tools of the LMS. You will also find out how a web-based course compares with a face-to-face class. What are the key factors that promote success in an online course? This session is partly a hands-on workshop where you will be able to explore the some of the tools in Blackboard/WebCT that can be used to promote engagement, learning and success

Presenter: Donald Girouard

Donald is currently a consultant for the Distance Learning Unit for Manitoba Education, Citizenship & Youth, working specifically with high school web-based course implementation for the province. His past experiences include being a teacher, guidance counsellor, principal, as well as distance education and technology coordinator. He also has experience writing and delivering web-based courses. Along with providing support to teachers, Donald also provides workshops for teachers using the Blackboard/WebCT interface and helps teachers integrate pedagogical and best practices into their online courses.
