Session 1
Title: Learning at the
Moment of Need – A Health Care Setting Example
Session
Description:
In recent years, many corporate
organizations have been embracing learning technologies, such as
LMS’s, to deliver standardized, formal learning materials across
time and distance to their employees. Yet in this age of the
knowledge worker, when only 10-20% of the knowledge someone
needs to do their job is kept in their head, are formal learning
sessions the best way to support staff in their “learning moment
of needs” in the workplace?
This session will discuss how
to apply Gottfredson and Mosher’s 5 learning moments of need in
a health care setting to get the right information into the
hands of the right people, at the right time, to do their jobs
to the best of their ability. A critical step in this process is
to shift the organizational learning focus from formal, onsite
classroom training to a model that strives to take best
advantage of both formal (including eLearning) and informal
learning environments.
If you plan on attending Conrad
Gottfredson and Bob Mosher’s workshops, this will be a great
follow on session that gives a Canadian example of their
principles in action. If you aren’t planning on attending their
workshops, this session will give you exposure to the thinking
that is happening in the world of performance support and the
value it can bring to learning in the workplace.
