Session 3
Title: Synchronous
Technologies to Support Online Students in Web-Based Courses
Session Description:
WebCT/Blackboard is an
asynchronous environment that can benefit from supports that are
synchronous. In Lakeshore, Microsoft Office Communicator and One
Note are two programs that are used to provide this synchronous
environment. With Communicator, students are able to chat, talk
via VOIP, and share their computer screens with the WebCT/Blackboard
instructors. Combined with One Note this creates a collaborative
environment where a virtual whiteboard is used for students and
teachers to workout homework problems in courses such as math,
chemistry and physics.
Students also use the Iogear Mobile Digital Scribe. This is a
digital pen that allows students to do their work at school or
at home. Paper assignments are no longer sent in the mail or
faxed to instructors. All assignments and tests are digitized
and emailed to the instructors.
