Session 9

Title: Teaching the Trades Online

Session Description:

Manitoba Colleges in partnership with SIAST (Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology) will develop 20+ trades levels for alternate delivery over the next two year. The goal of the EADDI project (E-Apprenticeship Alternate Delivery Development Initiative) is to open access to candidates who cannot attend ten-week blocks of learning in an urban centre.

The session will review the current pilot project and lessons learned in providing apprenticeship training online as well as present an ambitious plan for developing the upcoming projects in a short timeframe.

Presenters: Michael Cameron and Michael Farris

Michael Cameron is the project manager for the EADDI project. Recently he was the Program Manager for Trades, Transportation, and Industrial in the School of Continuing & Distance Education at Red River College. Prior to joining RRC, he managed a Canadian Aboriginal Apprenticeship Research project to assist Aboriginal people in remote northern Ontario into the construction trades and apprenticeship.

Michael Farris is Manager of Learning Technologies at Red River College. His department sponsored the Pilot of Electrical Level 1 and has been providing instructional design and technology support for the project.
