Workshop 11
Title: Engaging learners
beyond the traditional classroom experience
Workshop
Description:
Would your instructional design
benefit from considering other options for communication,
collaboration or writing outside of class or beyond your
institutional learning management system? Perhaps additional
multimedia resources may augment your presentations or learning
activities? Increasingly, educators are taking advantage of the
potential of current online tools and resources, while students
are voicing expectations for learning experiences that go beyond
the traditional classroom or the capabilities of many of today’s
course management systems. Carefully designed learning
activities which use appropriate online resources or tools may
provide more opportunities for active learning and engage
students through familiar interfaces and features.
In this workshop, participants begin by identifying some
instructional objectives and activities. Through demonstrations,
hands-on exploration, and discussions, participants will
consider instructional design possibilities with “free” online
solutions. To better meet the needs of workshop participants,
registrants will be surveyed about their interests and
instructional objectives prior to the workshop. As well, they
will receive instructions on setting up accounts for various
tools and environments. Participants should be comfortable with
web browsing and trying online tools.
