Keynote Title: Implications and Future Directions of Social Media for Higher Education.

Description
We are at the dawning of a new age of new media publishing and technology. What are the implications of teaching and learning with social and mobile tools such as eBooks, Facebook, and Wikipedia? This keynote address will explore some of the immediate impacts of the e-revolution on campus culture. We'll explore how students' and professors' digital proclivities, mobile devices, everyday media use habits, and the ubiquity of Facebook shape the work we do together and the experience of higher ed in Canada. 

 

Sindneyeve Matrix

Sidneyeve Matrix is Queen's National Scholar and Assistant Professor in the Department of Media and Film at Queen's University. She teaches courses in mass communications, marketing, and digital and social media for undergrads.

She teaches courses with over 1,000 students at a time in a blended learning environment using social and mobile media tools. Sidneyeve also teaches social media strategy in the Queen's School of Business Executive Development Centre and for Rutgers University Center for Management Development.

She is a 2011 Educator in Residence at The Centre for Teaching and Learning at Queen's and the recipient of the 2011 OUSA Award for Excellence in Teaching at Queen's University by the Alma Mater Society and the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance.

Sidneyeve has a PhD from The University of Minnesota. She is an Associate Editor of The Journal of Professional Communications and is on the editorial boards of The International Journal of Interactive Multimedia and at Marketing magazine.

She is a professional speaker and published author. Sidneyeve is a regular digital trends analyst for national media outlets, including CBC News and CBC Radio, CTVGlobeMedia, The Canadian Press, Sun Media, CanWest Global, and many regional newspapers and radio broadcasts. Her educational technology initiatives and research have been featured in University Affairs Magazine, Macleans Magazine, Yahoo!, MSN.ca, Canada.com, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, and elsewhere.


Sidneyeve also works as a social media developer helping brands increase their digital IQ, at MatrixMediaFX. Sidneyeve is a professional blogger who writes for Macmillan Publishers, the {Grow!} marketing blog, and on Cyberpop! She is recognized as one of the Top Marketing Professors on Twitter.
