MADLaT President's Report:Darlene Frederickson Annual General Meeting, May 07 2010
MADLaT 2010 is our 9th Annual conference. This is quite a record for a volunteer organization. MADLaT Conferences are successes because of the spirit and work of our volunteers. Year after year, you and your colleagues volunteer for the “Program Committee,” the “Call for Papers” Committee and the “Conference Planning Committee” and together you create
the Annual Conference. As an organization, this is our particular strength. Thank you for doing this - year after year. We continue to receive support from our sponsors, partners and exhibitors. These include the
Silver Sponsors: Assiniboine Community College Brandon University Bronze Sponsors: College universitaire de Saint-Boniface Evolution Presentation Technologies Manitoba Advanced Education & Literacy Red River College University College of the North University of Manitoba General Contributors: Campus Manitoba Innovation, Energy & Mines Hospitality Grant: Manitoba Education.
Our Partners are: Assiniboine Community College, College universitaire de Saint-Boniface, Manitoba Education, MERLIN, Red River College, St. James-Assiniboia School Division, University of North Dakota, University College of the North, University of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg, and, Winnipeg Technical College. And our Exhibitors this year are: Campus Manitoba; Desire2Learn, Evolution Presentation Technologies, and Smarter U Inc.
MADLaT is a collegial organization, bringing practitioners together to dialogue and learn and play, both by distance and F2F. We maintain a healthy listserv; we attract and encourage a roster of provincial, national and international volunteers; and, we continue our history of financial stability. Our goal is always to return value to our members. We can say proudly that a large component of our assets resides in the brains of our volunteers, but, we also have an up-to date website and an efficient conference website with online registration.
This year, we had another wonderful Conference. A special thank you to Red River College for support-in-kind and as the beautiful host venue (and all that entails) for the second time. And we give a grateful nod to the University of Manitoba for hosting the Conference for many years.
MADLaT can look forward to a great 10th Anniversary Year. The new Board will have a number of new members. Our challenge for the future will be to continue to keep our “old” volunteers and generate “new” volunteers. MADLaT has developed effective organization and conference protocols over time and these continue to be utilized. The organization’s “memory” also resides in its volunteers and the Board will continue to need this great support from the members.
And finally, I want to note again that it has been a privilege to work with the Board members and the Conference volunteers this past year. You are all engaged, productive and open to-learning practitioners. You know the meaning of dialogue. You practice what you preach.
MADLaT is well-placed to continue its success into its 10th Year!
