MADLaT President's Report: Carolle Roy

Annual General Meeting, May 06 2011

MADLaT’s 2011 annual conference represents a milestone of our organization  - our 10th  anniversary.  This accomplishment could not have taken place without the many volunteers who contributed their time and effort through the last 10 years. It is important for us  to recognize all of those who were involved with the previous events. Without their committement we would not be here today.

MADLaT’s Planning Committee has worked long and hard on this year’s conference and I would like to extend my thanks to all those Board members who have been involved with this process since September 2010.
This year, our Partners were:
Assiniboine Community College
MERLIN
(Manitoba Education, Research & Learning Information Network)
Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface
Red River College of Applied Arts, Science & Technology
English Online Inc.
St James-Assiniboia School Division
Manitoba Education
University of North Dakota
University of Winnipeg

The 2011 conference has taken place in a new venue. I must emphasize that the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface (CUSB) was very supportive, not only by allowing us to use their facilities, but also through their in-kind contribution (time of employees, office supplies, etc.). This is why we created the Platinum level that type of sponsorship.

As it has been mentioned during that conference, ten years have passed. Much has changed since the inception of MADLaT.  The world of technology has entered our everyday lives - now we don’t phone – but instead Skype.  We don’t write a letter – we email.  This same world of technology, in turn, has greatly influenced our various methods of educational communication. Even the manner in which conferences are attended has changed, with people observing and participating online.  Perhaps it is time for MADLaT  to examine this trend and work to set up a new formula that will be convenient for all of its members.  There are many possibilities and we hope that we will hear from you when we begin to explore this opportunity.
So as we move forward from this anniversary year, MADLaT should continue its mandate to lead its members to new  technologies.  In doing so, we will promote, create and enhance better teaching environments, no matter where our educators and their recipient students are found.

Yours truly

Carolle Roy
