Empowering Success in the Online Environment
Workshop Description:
This hands-on workshop will explore a range of issues related to the
support and development of faculty involved in online education. Faculty
are the most valuable asset to a successful online learning program.
Understanding their needs and developing the appropriate levels of
service is a critical link to a satisfied online-faculty. This session
will review existing strategies to assist faculty in the management of
the online classroom as well as generate new strategies for addressing
the design and development of the online classroom.
Objectives:
- Participants will review existing
strategies for addressing development needs of faculty involved in
online learning.
- Participants will formulate new
approaches to serving the development needs of faculty in the areas of
pedagogical and technical support, compensation, and student support.
Intended Audience: Support
staff, administrators and faculty involved in designing and delivering
distance learning programs.
Presenter: Lawrence Ragan, Ph.D., Penn State University
Lawrence
C. Ragan is the Director of Instructional Design and Development for
Distance Education and Penn State's World Campus initiative. Dr. Ragan
is charged with directing the design and development of instructional
materials for learners external to a Penn State campus. He is
responsible for the integration of a wide range of electronic
communications technologies into the instructional process including
web-based systems, computer mediated communications, and interactive
compressed video. Dr. Ragan coordinates the design and delivery of
faculty development seminars and training programs for Distance
Education and the World Campus. Dr. Ragan has presented internationally
on the topics of instructional design, multimedia development, faculty
development issues and instructional design for distance education.
